About Me

Photo of a woman who is a speech and language therapist in La Jolla, California

I am a pediatric speech-language pathologist (SLP) with experience and passion for working with children and their families to achieve their goals. My goal is to help children master their sound production goals through a multifaceted and individualized approach, as well as to foster support from parents and teachers, making therapy as fast and effective as possible for the child. Speech sound disorders have become my passion over the past few years. I love helping educate kids about how sounds are made and linking sounds to literacy. Nothing beats the thrill of helping a child master a new sound that they have been working on and seeing that lightbulb click when they finally get it. I love every moment of helping children gain communication! When I am not working as an SLP I work my second job as “mom”. I believe in a healthy work-life balance and enjoy spending my free time doing yoga, meditating, reading, playing with my newly certified service pup and hanging out with my kids.

Background:

I started my journey to becoming an SLP in my undergraduate work in psychology and early childhood development at UC Berkeley where I worked for several years as a preschool student teacher at the UC Berkeley child study center and assisted in graduate research under the renowned child Psychologist, Allison Gopnik. I also have several years of experience running a preschool classroom, where I first discovered the benefits of speech therapy with children. I went on to earn my Master’s Degree at Cal State East Bay in northern California before starting my internship at Rady Children’s Hospital in 2008. I decided to start my private practice so I could start to treat children in a more natural environment instead of a medical office setting, which I truly believe yields the best results for a child’s progress.

Experience:

I started my career in the field of Speech Therapy in 2008 at Rady Children’s Hospital, San Diego, obtaining a vast range of experience in the hospital setting for 10 years. I gained experience in inpatient and outpatient pediatric care in a variety of areas, including diagnosis and treatment of language, articulation, phonological, voice, fluency, oral motor/ tongue thrust, motor planning and social-pragmatic language impairments. I specialized in work with early childhood (0-6 years of age) during my last 6 years at RCHSD, providing services free of charge for children 0-6 years of age through the Children’s Care Connection program through First Five Healthy Development services and Rady Children’s. I started my private practice in 2018 and have spent the last several years gaining more experience and fine-tuning my specialty in Speech Sound Disorders. I am an ASHA (American Speech-Language-Hearing Association) certified member, and a Hanen Program Certified therapist for parent-training in early childhood language development.

I look forward to working with you and your child!
